There are some that don't want emails and others that don't want texts - but do want reminders. I'd like to choose what they get when I set p the patient. Also, they are getting the reminder text an hour before. Thats not helpful.

Hi Diane - thanks for reaching out. Did you know that you can set an SMS reminder to take place multiple days in advance? You can find this in Settings > Communications. The 1 hour reminder SMS is set as a back-up for those patients who sometimes forget that they have an appointment.
